Petrol Price Review Looms in Abuja as IPMAN Awaits New Supplies

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has announced plans to review petrol pump prices at filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory as new supplies of Premium Motor Spirit are expected to enter the market in the coming days.

IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Ukadike said marketers were preparing to adjust their prices and sales strategies once the new petrol products begin arriving in the market.

He, however, explained that the exact date for the price review remained uncertain because marketers were still waiting for confirmation on when the new products would arrive.

According to him, marketers are expected to respond quickly once the fresh supplies become available, with purchases potentially beginning within the next few days.

He said the adjustments would be carried out in accordance with existing regulations guiding petrol sales and pricing.

The planned review comes after a recent increase in petrol prices linked to higher ex-depot prices.

According to NAN, the Dangote Refinery increased its gantry price from N1,165 per litre to N1,185, then N1,200 and subsequently N1,265 within the last week.

The increases have been reflected in pump prices at several filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory, putting additional pressure on motorists and other fuel consumers.

The development has generated concern among motorists, many of whom are already dealing with the impact of rising transportation and living costs.

Some consumers have consequently called on the Federal Government to intervene and stabilise petrol prices to prevent further increases in the cost of transportation and other goods and services.

IPMAN, however, indicated that the market could see adjustments once the new supplies enter the distribution chain.

The association’s statement suggests that motorists in Abuja could experience another change in pump prices in the coming days, depending on the cost and availability of the incoming products.

The latest development further highlights the volatility in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market, where changes in depot and supply prices are quickly reflected at filling stations.

Marketers are now awaiting the arrival of the new products before determining the next round of price adjustments.
