The Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State has constituted a 45-member campaign council as it steps up preparations for the 2027 governorship election.

The party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Lamido, will chair the council, which is expected to coordinate the PDP’s mobilisation and engagement activities across the state’s 27 local government areas.

Lamido announced the composition of the council in a statement issued in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Friday night, expressing confidence that the team would help the party build a strong campaign ahead of the election.

Inuwa Tahir was appointed Deputy Chairman, while Senator Mustapha Khabeeb will serve as Vice Chairman I for Jigawa Central. Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure was named Vice Chairman II for the North-West, with Yusuf Dunari appointed Vice Chairman III for the North-East.

The council also includes former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba; Dr Nuraddeen Mohammed; former deputy governorship candidate Babandi Gumel; Dr Aminu Taura and Professor Mustapha Jarumi.

Other members include Isah Zakari Bosuwa, Idris Alhaji Garba Kareka, Ali Idris Diginsa and Nasir Umar Roni, alongside serving and former lawmakers, party leaders and other stakeholders.

According to Lamido, members of the State Working Committee and grassroots mobilisers were also incorporated into the council to broaden the party’s reach across Jigawa State.

Beyond the 45-member council, the PDP candidate announced a campaign directorate that will oversee the day-to-day running of the campaign.

Shehu Liman Wan was appointed Director-General, while Nasir Mohammed will serve as Secretary. Nuraddeen Muhammad was named Director of Strategy and Mobilisation, while Suleiman Abba will oversee the Directorate of Security.

Aminu Abubakar was appointed Director of Finance, Umar Kyari will head Media and Publicity, while Umar Birniwa was named Director of Planning, Research, Organisation and Documentation.

Fahad Hashim was appointed Director of Youth and Support Groups, while Murja Garki will coordinate Women Mobilisation.

Lamido expressed confidence in the ability of the campaign team to lead the PDP to victory in the 2027 governorship election.

The development comes as political parties in Jigawa and across the country intensify their preparations for the 2027 elections through the formation of campaign structures and grassroots mobilisation teams.

Lamido was affirmed as the PDP’s governorship candidate in May after emerging as the sole aspirant for the party’s ticket.
