Veteran Nollywood actor, Yinka Quadri, has recalled the emotional final moments he shared with his longtime friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, revealing the words the late actor told him during his last visit to the hospital.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried on Monday in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
Quadri, who was visibly emotional at Ogogo’s burial, described the late actor as more than a friend, saying their relationship was like that of twins born to different mothers.
In a lengthy tribute shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Quadri recalled how he broke down in tears when he saw Ogogo lying on his hospital bed.
According to him, rather than allowing him to cry, Ogogo tried to reassure him.
Quadri said Ogogo looked at him and said, “Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.”
Quadri responded, “Yes, Amen.”
He further recalled that a few minutes later, Ogogo asked him to give him a bottle of water on the table. After drinking the water, Ogogo asked if Quadri could see that he had been able to drink despite having eaten earlier that morning.
He then asked the doctors to confirm whether he had actually eaten that morning, and they confirmed that he had.
Quadri said the moment strengthened his hope and faith, prompting him to say, “Glory be to God.” The doctors, however, advised them to remain prayerful.
Reflecting on their relationship, Quadri said he and Ogogo had known each other since 1984 and that their friendship had grown beyond an ordinary professional relationship.
He described Ogogo as his “brother” and “confidant,” adding that he had always referred to them as “twins from heaven, only born to different mothers.”
Quadri also said their friendship survived disagreements and rumours of a rift, noting that whenever people assumed they were fighting, the two would often be seen together laughing and chatting.
He expressed gratitude for Ogogo’s life and prayed for the forgiveness of his shortcomings and eternal rest.
Ogogo’s death has continued to generate tributes from colleagues, friends, protégés and fans across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
