Governor Adeleke Vows to Heal Osun After Election Violence, Announces Probe and Compensation Fund as Osun State Marks 35th Anniversary

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to heal the wounds arising from the recent governorship election, unite residents and promote fairness as the state marks its 35th anniversary.

Governor Adeleke made the pledge in a state broadcast on Thursday, August 27, 2026, as he reflected on the state’s journey and the challenges surrounding the recent election.

The Governor acknowledged the pains and sacrifices suffered by residents in recent months, particularly families who lost loved ones and those injured during the electoral crisis.

He commended residents for their commitment to democracy and the rule of law, saying they resisted the temptation to take the law into their own hands despite the difficult circumstances.

“Amidst reign of terror, you rejected the guns and embraced the ballot,” Governor Adeleke said, praising residents for turning out to vote and defending their votes despite the risks involved.

Governor Adeleke described the recent governorship election as “the toughest test of who we are as a people” in the 35-year history of the state, saying the conduct of residents demonstrated courage and commitment to democratic values.

He promised that his administration would focus on reconciliation and inclusive governance, saying, “I promise to heal the wounds, unite the people and uphold equity and fairness.”

As part of measures to address the aftermath of the violence, Governor Adeleke announced the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry on election violence. He said the commission would receive memoranda from victims and affected residents, identify the causes of the violence, recommend remedies and suggest measures to prevent a recurrence.

The Governor also announced an election victim compensation fund, headed by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, to cushion the effects of the violence on victims and affected families.

Governor Adeleke urged residents to remain law-abiding and avoid reprisal attacks as the state moves beyond the recent political crisis. He called for continued cooperation among residents in building a more united and prosperous Osun.

Beyond the election crisis, Governor Adeleke said his administration would continue to pursue development programmes in infrastructure, digital economy, sports, agricultural mechanisation, education and healthcare, with attention to youths, women and students.

The Governor’s anniversary message placed healing, unity, democracy and good governance at the centre of Osun’s 35th anniversary as the state begins another chapter of its development.
