The Nigerian Army has warned Nigerians, particularly young people seeking military employment, to disregard a fake recruitment publication circulating on social media claiming that applications for the 92 Regular Recruitment Intake have commenced.
The Army said the publication did not represent an official announcement and urged members of the public not to act on the information or provide personal details or money to anyone claiming to be facilitating the recruitment exercise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Army said it has an established procedure for announcing recruitment exercises and would make an official announcement through its recognised communication channels when the recruitment portal for the 92 Regular Recruitment Intake is formally opened.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent recruitment advertisements circulated online, particularly those targeting unemployed youths and Nigerians eager to secure opportunities in the armed forces.
The Army cautioned prospective applicants to be particularly careful with individuals, social media accounts, websites or groups that may attempt to exploit the fake announcement by requesting registration fees, processing charges or other payments.
Army urges applicants to verify information
The Nigerian Army stressed that members of the public should rely only on information released through its official channels when seeking updates about recruitment and other military opportunities.
The service said the public would be duly informed once the 92 Regular Recruitment Intake officially begins, meaning applicants should not rely on unofficial publications or messages circulating on social media.
The warning is similar to previous alerts issued by the Army over fraudulent recruitment advertisements. In July, the service also disowned a fake advertisement inviting applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission Course 50/2027 and warned prospective applicants against making payments to individuals, groups or websites claiming to recruit on its behalf.
The Army had emphasised in that earlier warning that its recruitment and commissioning exercises are free, transparent and merit-based, and that no individual or agent is authorised to facilitate recruitment or demand payment from applicants at any stage of the process.
The latest alert therefore serves as another reminder to job seekers to verify recruitment claims before submitting personal information or making financial commitments.
The Army urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating publication on the 92 Regular Recruitment Intake until an official announcement is made and advised prospective applicants to remain vigilant against fraudsters who may attempt to exploit the recruitment season.
It also encouraged members of the public to verify any recruitment information through the Nigerian Army’s recognised official communication platforms before taking action.
The warning is particularly important as fake military recruitment notices have repeatedly appeared online, with fraudsters using the names, logos and identities of security agencies to make fraudulent offers appear genuine. Earlier fact-checking investigations have also identified social media accounts falsely presenting themselves as authorised military recruitment bodies.
The Nigerian Army reiterated that official information concerning the commencement of the 92 Regular Recruitment Intake will be communicated to the public through its authorised channels.
Until such an announcement is made, Nigerians have been advised to ignore any message claiming that the application portal has opened and to avoid paying anyone in connection with the purported recruitment exercise.
