Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has brought the state’s security chiefs together for an urgent review of recent attacks, as the police confirmed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with major incidents recorded across the state.

The State Security Council meeting was held on Wednesday at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, following renewed concerns over attacks in some communities and the need to strengthen the state’s security response.

Those who attended included the Deputy Governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, discussions centred on emerging security threats, recent incidents, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations and stronger cooperation among security agencies.

The council also examined strategies for protecting lives and property while creating a safer environment for businesses, investors and residents across Plateau State.

Speaking after the meeting, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, said the governor regularly convenes the State Security Council to assess developments, identify weaknesses and strengthen existing measures for dealing with security threats.

Faniyan specifically referred to the recent incident in Mangu as one of the reasons for the meeting. He described the occurrence as unfortunate, noting that security personnel had been prepared and deployed, but the attack still happened.

The police commissioner said the meeting was therefore necessary to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future and that security agencies improve their response to emerging threats.

Faniyan also disclosed that arrests had already been made in connection with some of the major attacks recorded in the state over the past month.

He said investigations were still ongoing to determine the identities and roles of other suspects allegedly connected to the incidents. According to him, the investigation is being conducted jointly with other security agencies, including authorities at the national level.

The commissioner added that security agencies were deploying technological tools to analyse available intelligence and support efforts to track suspects and establish their involvement in the attacks.

He assured residents that security agencies had received the governor’s directives and would continue to work together to protect communities, prevent criminal activities and respond quickly to emerging threats.

The meeting comes amid continued concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where attacks have affected communities and security personnel. The state government has continued to place emphasis on intelligence sharing and coordination among security agencies as part of efforts to maintain peace.

Governor Mutfwang’s administration said the broader objective is not only to protect lives and property but also to maintain conditions that will allow agriculture, tourism, commerce and investment to thrive.

With arrests already made and investigations continuing, residents will be watching closely for further action from the security agencies and the outcome of ongoing investigations into those suspected of involvement in the attacks.

The Plateau State Government and security agencies have consequently reiterated their commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture and preventing a recurrence of attacks across vulnerable communities.
