Residents of Ajisomo community in Gbongan, Osun State, have expressed relief and appreciation following the provision of a borehole in the area by Honourable Taiwo Oluga, a former member of the House of Representatives and former Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Culture and Tourism, who is currently the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the House of Representatives in the Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency.
The community, which has reportedly struggled with water scarcity for several years, had depended on difficult and unreliable means of getting water for domestic use. Residents said the situation had become particularly challenging, forcing some people to travel outside the area in search of water.
Speaking during an interview with De-Ultimate Radio, Gbongan, a resident of Ajisomo, Mrs. Alakinde, said the borehole came as a surprise because residents had endured the water shortage for many years.
According to her, she has lived in the area for about 30 years and has witnessed the difficulties residents have faced in getting water.
She explained that the situation sometimes forced residents to go to places such as Oke Bola to fetch water, while some also depended on nearby streams and other alternative sources.
Mrs. Alakinde expressed gratitude to Honourable Taiwo Oluga for responding to the community’s long-standing need, saying residents were happy that the area had finally received a dependable source of water.
She also appreciated Honourable Oluga for remembering the community and prayed for God’s continued blessings and success for her.
Another resident, Mr. Abdulraheem Kazeem, also commended the initiative, noting that the provision of the borehole would help reduce the hardship residents had experienced over the years.
He said the community had suffered considerably because of the lack of water and expressed hope that the project would be properly maintained so that it could continue to serve the people for a long time.
Mr. Abdulraheem further revealed that the water crisis was a hardship his family had experienced for generations, explaining that his late father also suffered from the lack of water supply in the area before his death. He added that he himself grew up in Ajisomo experiencing the same hardship and had known the community’s struggle for water from childhood.
He further prayed for Honourable Taiwo Oluga, asking God to reward her for the intervention and grant her victory in the representative position she is contesting for, wishing her success in her political ambition and future endeavours.
Also speaking, Mrs. Abdulraheem Morufat described the borehole as a welcome development for Ajisomo, stressing that access to water had remained a major challenge in the community for many years.
He said residents would support efforts to ensure proper maintenance of the facility, noting that preserving the borehole would be important to prevent the community from returning to the difficult situation it experienced in the past.
Mrs. Morufat also prayed that God would make Honourable Taiwo Oluga happy in every way, just as she had put smiles and happiness on the faces of residents through the provision of the borehole. And she also expressed her support for Honourable Oluga, saying residents of the area would stand by her during the election and work towards her victory as a way of showing appreciation for the positive impact of the borehole project on the community.
The residents also expressed hope that the intervention would bring lasting relief to families in Ajisomo, particularly children and others who previously had to spend considerable time looking for water.
For the community, the new borehole represents more than just a water facility; it is a response to a basic need that residents say they have struggled with for years.
Residents therefore called for proper maintenance of the borehole and collective responsibility in protecting the facility so that it can continue to provide water for the community for years to come.
