African footballers made their mark across Europe’s major leagues over the weekend, with several players scoring, assisting and producing standout performances for their respective clubs.

In England, Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo was on target for Manchester United in their 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton. The forward scored in the 46th minute after racing forward before firing a powerful finish past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The goal was Mbeumo’s second in three matches this season, following his strike in Manchester United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich.

In Spain, Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe opened the scoring for Villarreal in their 3-2 defeat to Deportivo La Coruña. Pepe produced an impressive finish to register his second goal of the season.

Despite Villarreal’s defeat, Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was among Deportivo’s standout performers. The 37-year-old created two goals before scoring himself late in the game to complete a remarkable individual display.

Aubameyang’s goal was his fourth in four matches, underlining his impressive start to the campaign.

Italy also witnessed a strong African performance as Senegal winger Assane Diao scored twice for Como in their 4-1 Serie A comeback victory over Genoa.

Diao found the net in both halves, first with a volley before adding his second with a well-placed effort into the corner to help Como secure a convincing win.

In Germany, Guinea international Serhou Guirassy contributed a goal and an assist as Borussia Dortmund came from two goals down to defeat Hoffenheim 3-2.

Guirassy reduced Hoffenheim’s advantage with a clever chip before setting up Fabio Silva five minutes later for Dortmund’s equaliser.

Moroccan midfielder Bilal El Khannouss also caught the eye for Stuttgart, scoring an excellent solo goal in the club’s 4-1 victory over Cologne. He carried the ball from outside the box, beat two defenders and finished into the bottom corner.

In France, Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah completed the scoring for Lyon in their 3-1 Ligue 1 victory over Auxerre.

Nuamah, who previously suffered a serious ankle injury, also assisted Lyon’s opening goal and was named player of the match for his overall contribution.

The weekend’s performances once again highlighted the growing influence of African players in Europe’s top football leagues, with several stars playing decisive roles for their clubs.
