Terrorist Attack Claims 12 Lives in Adamawa, LG Chairman Confirms

At least 12 people have been killed in a terrorist attack on Nzangula village in Guyaku Ward, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to the Chairman of Gombi Local Government Area, Markus Ishaya.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, with the council chairman confirming that 12 people lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment at the Cottage Hospital in Gombi.

Ishaya, who disclosed the development during a telephone interview, said the report received from Nzangula village indicated that the attackers also abducted a woman and destroyed property in the community.

According to the council chairman, an EYN Church was burnt during the attack, while three houses were also set ablaze. Two shops were equally vandalised by the attackers.

The latest figure represents an update from the initial report of the incident, which had put the death toll at 11. Earlier information from residents indicated that 11 bodies had been recovered after terrorists invaded the community, shooting at residents and setting houses on fire.

A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to journalists, said Boko Haram fighters invaded the village in the early hours of Monday. He said search teams and security personnel were still combing surrounding areas for people who could be missing.

Another resident recounted the personal loss suffered during the attack, saying his wife and two other family members were among those killed.

The attack has further heightened security concerns in Adamawa, coming barely two weeks after terrorists reportedly killed more than 10 people in another attack in Hong Local Government Area of the state.

The latest incident has also raised fresh concerns about the safety of residents in communities around Gombi, particularly those vulnerable to attacks by terrorist groups.

As of the time of filing the report, the Adamawa State Police Command had not responded to repeated calls seeking confirmation or further details about the attack.

With 12 deaths now confirmed by the Gombi council chairman, attention is expected to remain on the security situation in the affected community, the condition of the injured victims and efforts to locate the abducted woman and any other residents who may still be missing.
