Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with a chieftaincy title in Imo State during her visit to the state on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The First Lady was conferred with the traditional title of Oso Di Eme I of Imo State, an Igbo expression which means “She who supports her husband.” The title was presented in recognition of her role as the wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and her activities in support of his administration.
The conferment was announced by the First Lady’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, who shared photographs from the ceremony on her official X account.
Kukoyi described Oluremi Tinubu as a worthy partner to President Tinubu, highlighting her support for the President as he carries out his responsibilities as Nigeria’s leader.
The First Lady was pictured at the ceremony dressed in colourful traditional attire decorated with Nigerian and All Progressives Congress symbols. She also wore a red headwrap and coral beads and held a ceremonial fan bearing the inscription “OSO DI EME.”
The honour came during Oluremi Tinubu’s official visit to Imo State, where she engaged with residents and participated in activities as part of her programme in the state.
During the visit, the First Lady also addressed members of the Catholic Mothers Association in Imo State, calling on them to continue praying for President Tinubu and his administration.
She assured the women that the Federal Government remained committed to improving the lives of Nigerians and delivering on its responsibilities to the country.
The latest honour adds to a series of traditional titles conferred on the First Lady during her visits to communities in the South-East.

In June 2026, she was conferred with the title Ugosimba I of Enugu, which was described as “Jewel of Empowerment.” The honour was linked to her efforts in promoting women’s empowerment and social development across the country.
Oluremi Tinubu served as a senator representing Lagos Central before becoming Nigeria’s First Lady in 2023. Since assuming the role, she has been involved in initiatives focused on women, children, education, health and social development.
The conferment in Imo further highlights the cultural recognition the First Lady has received during her engagements across different parts of the South-East.
Photographs from the ceremony showed the First Lady participating in the traditional proceedings and receiving the symbols associated with the newly conferred title. The event was marked by cultural displays and the presence of traditional and community stakeholders.
