2027: Kwankwaso Urges Atiku to Step Aside for Younger Leadership

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, urging him to make way for other opposition figures seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

Kwankwaso, who is a leading figure in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the appeal as political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify.

The former Kano governor reportedly asked Atiku to step aside and support the emerging political arrangement, assuring him that his contribution to the opposition movement would not be disregarded.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition figures to build a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Atiku remains one of the prominent figures in the opposition camp and has previously indicated that the 2027 election would be his final presidential contest if Nigerians reject him at the polls.

Kwankwaso’s latest position adds to the growing debate over who should lead the opposition into the 2027 election, particularly as politicians continue to negotiate alliances and strategies aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 2027 contest is expected to feature intense competition among major political figures, with questions surrounding candidate selection, opposition unity and the possibility of a single presidential candidate remaining central to political discussions.
