The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a child in Onitsha, describing the incident as deeply disturbing and beyond comprehension.

Her reaction followed the arrest of a 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, by the Anambra State Police Command on September 10, 2026, in connection with an alleged case of child pornography.

The police said the arrest followed information gathered through open-source intelligence concerning a disturbing video circulating online, allegedly showing a woman using sex toys on a minor. The operation also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years, while sex toys and other items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered.

According to the police, Onyeanusia remains in custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other people were involved. Her husband is also being questioned to establish whether he had any connection with the alleged offence.

Reacting to the development, Mrs Soludo condemned the alleged exploitation of the child and stressed that every child deserves to grow in a safe, loving and protective environment.

She commended the Anambra State Police Command as well as members of the public whose information and intervention contributed to the rescue of the children.

The governor’s wife urged the police to conduct a transparent, professional and comprehensive investigation, stressing the need to establish the full facts of the case, identify anyone else who may have been involved and ensure that the law takes its course where wrongdoing is established.

Mrs Soludo said her immediate concern was the welfare of the four rescued children, particularly the possible emotional and psychological impact of what they may have experienced.

She said efforts should go beyond rescuing the children, noting that they also require appropriate medical, psychological, social and rehabilitation support to help them recover.

She further said she would remain engaged with relevant government agencies to monitor the situation and ensure that the children continue to receive adequate protection and care.

Mrs Soludo also appealed to parents, guardians, neighbours and community leaders to remain vigilant and speak up whenever they notice anything that could threaten the safety or dignity of a child.

She maintained that silence should never be an option when a child is at risk, reaffirming the Anambra State Government’s position against violence, abuse and exploitation of women and children.

The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
