Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has sealed a partnership with a Shanghai-listed technology giant for the deployment of drones, radar, robotics and AI-powered surveillance across the state.
The statewide security project, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, was finalised on Monday at a meeting with top executives of Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited, led by its Director of International Operations, Mr. Cai Jianfei and Manager, Overseas Operations, Mr. Nemo Guo.
The statement noted that the initiative will see the installation of a comprehensive, state-of-the-art security and intelligence platform with a central Command and Control Centre to monitor the entire state in real time, 24/7.
According to details of the project, the system will leverage artificial intelligence-enabled cameras, drones, radar, robotics and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices spread throughout the state to gather information and monitor events.
The coverage will extend to schools, banks, industries, farms, mining sites, commercial centres, bus parks and motor garages across major towns and arteries of the state.
“A key component is a Safe-School Project and a decentralised app to be installed on citizens’ phones, directly linking residents to the Command and Control Centre for rapid emergency response,” the statement noted.
The statement added that Mr. Cai, who invited the Governor for a working visit to China, described the project as all-inclusive, designed to integrate and strengthen the capacity of the state leadership to secure and protect citizens and businesses.
Governor Adeleke said the project builds on his administration’s establishment of the State Security Trust Fund and marks a strategic shift to technology-driven security.
“Our plan is to create an inclusive security platform that will fully secure and protect our people. From schools, hospitals, businesses and border communities, this initiative is a strategic option,” Adeleke said.
